Zacky Vengeance on The Rev and Arin Ilejay - July 19th, 2013
Interviewer: So this will be the 6th studio album, correct? and the 1st without any writing contributions from The Rev who unfortunately as we all know passed away back in 2009. Do you feel a big difference in uh, I mean obviously the record is different but did you... I guess how did you feel about that? The first full length without uh, contributions?
Zacky Vengeance: You know we, i mean all of us, being you know being best friends with Jimmy and ultimately being, you know some of his biggest fans... I mean we're sad because... You know we'd always want to see what that guy'd come up with. And you'd never know what he would come up with. So that element is always, you know we had many years to prepare ourselves and realize that we were going to be missing out on that element. But on the brighter side, you know we were all really excited to write, so it wasn't like we were dreading the experience. It was like we felt it was the right time to go out, we had a strong vision of what we wanted to do and you know, it starts so that we can kick as much ass as possible so that we can honor our friend, and keep up with his legacy! I think he'd be smiling down on us and what we did with this album.
Interviewer: Yeah and that's usually the case you know, they'd be like "You gotta go man you gotta keep doing what you do!"
Zacky Vengeance: Exactly.
Interviewer: So Portnoy took over for a while and then you picked up Arin. Uh how do you pronounce Arin's last name?
Zacky Vengeance: It's ill-Ay
Interviewer: ill-Ay okay, he's an official member of the band now, correct?
Zacky Vengeance: Yeah, we treat him like a family member at this point you know? Every day you always constantly have to become a member... Every day you earn the right. But hes worked his butt off, he's an amazing drummer, he was there on the album, he wrote with us, he plays and he's out with us now on tour. Um, you know as far as we're concerned he's defiantly a member of avenged sevenfold. And to have a contribution like hes given us, you know it's...No matter what hes always going to be treated and considered one of the Avenged Sevenfold family.
Interviewer: Do you ever wind up googling yourself just to see what's goin' on, "whats been written about me?" Or anything like that?
Johnny Christ: No I, I try and steer clear of that stuff Cause I'm ah, I, I'm very uh shy, And i don't really wanna see all of what the fans have to say most of the time.
Interviewer: Nah i get you that could drive probably anybody insane, cause then you just spend all day on there, and then next thing you know it's like " Why does this person care so much about my hair that they need instruction on how to make it look like that?"
Johnny Christ: Hahaha!
